The power of motivation is often either underestimated or brushed aside by some people. People fail to realize that motivating someone in any arena of life only cultivates more force in generating positive feelings. To pat someone on the back, to congratulate someone when the going gets great or to vouch for someone during his peak form is a mere reinforcement of your support to a person. However, the real use of motivation comes in when the chips are down; nothing seems to be working fine and when someone is under pressure to perform. When the going gets tough, all that one needs is someone to put an arm around the shoulder, reaffirm the faith and ignore a few mistakes. On the contrary, most people go wrong in this context and run out of patience. They create an atmosphere of extreme pressure and instead of creating a scope for a comeback, they pull the person deeper into stress and kill the performance totally. This in turn results in loss of love, understanding and results. ...

This is a little story of a boy and a girl who were playing together. The boy had lot of marbles and the girl had sweets with her. The boy asked the girl if she would exchange her sweets for the marbles. The girl agreed and handed over all the sweets to the boy. However, the boy, sneaked out the biggest and the most colorful marble that he had and gave the rest to the girl. That night the girl slept well but the boy was restless all night thinking that the girl may have hidden some sweets from him like the way he had hidden the marble. The moral of the story is – ‘What you give is what you get and what you get is what you deserve’. In this case the boy was not honest and thus had a sleepless night filled with doubt. How often do we come across people who cheat themselves and blame the rest of the world or curse destiny for their level of existence? By nature most people like to play an inferior game and expect superior results; when results fail to come in, they begin the blame...

Innovate to Stay Alive

Image
Recently, I was reading an interesting case of a mobile phone manufacturing company that until a couple of years ago was the world’s leading and most preferred brand and suddenly it is struggling to keep pace with the competition. The reason? Well, the competitors have been successful in introducing better, cheaper and faster products with superior technology. It happens all the time. Nothing remains forever. Products, ideas, services, everything changes. The best-selling products loose the sheen and get outdated if they don’t keep pace with changing time and trends. People/ organizations who reach the top by being imaginative and flexible also sometimes get into a comfort zone. While they fail to explore new directions and get complacent, they provide young competitors an opportunity to race past them, leaving them with two simple choices – Innovate or Perish. Someone rightly said that ‘the best way to predict future is to invent it’. Consider any example of a succes...
